VantageScore describes several profiles of hypothetical persons' credit histories.
In one case, "Brenda," the company delineates this as a way to improve the "her credit score": "If the balance amount on one or more credit cards is greater than 70% of the full credit line for that card, reduce balances to less than 30% and maintain that level for at least six months."
That infers that a consumer file contains a history of balances.
