- What is the average credit score? It appears to be unknown. Reports vary. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a federal agency, cites a 714 average FICO credit score (citing the median), but only uses the indefinite article "one" ("of the CRAs") to describe the consumer reporting agency it came from.
- What is so important about the average? A measure of central tendency, the median, as the average, is perhaps the most fundamental statistic about credit scores.
