In 2008, the three largest U.S. consumer reporting agencies told creditscoring.com that they do not provide credit scores for employment purposes.
However, following a video [fast–forward to 13:30] interview with a 2016 U.S. presidential candidate, Radio One published, in error, "There are an increasing number of Americans being denied jobs as a result of their credit reports and credit scores." #Myth2
Before his question, interviewer Roland Martin, said, "There are an increasing number of people across this country who are being denied jobs because of credit reports and credit scores."
In her response, the candidate said: "I want people to be responsible; I want them to pay their debts. But I also want to make sure you've got a second chance. And, it shouldn't be that you are denied a job that has nothing to do—as I understand, working for the Birmingham newspaper would have—with your credit score or your credit situation."
The website page containing the video quotes the candidate as saying, "So, yeah, I want people to be responsible, I want them to pay their debts, but I also want to make sure you got a second chance, and you should not be denied a job that has nothing to do with … your credit score."
The quotation included the ellipses seen above.
